Privacy Policy — APIWhisperer

APIWhisperer ("the Extension") is a Chrome browser extension that analyzes API documentation pages using artificial intelligence. This Privacy Policy describes the information we collect, how we use it, and your rights with respect to that information.

1. Information We Collect

Using the data category vocabulary defined by the Chrome Web Store, the Extension collects the following type of user data:

• Website content — When you actively choose to analyze a page, the Extension reads the text content of your current browser tab and transmits it to our backend for AI processing. This is the only data category collected.

We do not collect:

• Personally identifiable information (name, email address, physical address, or similar)
• Authentication information (passwords, credentials, API keys)
• Financial and payment information
• Health information
• Communications
• Location data
• Web history or browsing activity outside of the actively analyzed tab
• User activity (clicks, mouse position, scroll position)

2. How We Use Your Information

Website content you submit for analysis is used solely to generate the AI-powered API summary returned to you in the extension panel. Specifically:

• The page text is transmitted securely to our backend server.
• Our backend forwards it to the Anthropic Claude API to produce the analysis.
• The response is returned to you and the content is immediately discarded — it is not stored, indexed, or used for any other purpose.

We do not use your data to serve advertising, build profiles, train models, or share with any party other than as described in Section 3.

3. Data Sharing

We share website content with one third-party service solely to fulfill the extension's core function:

• Anthropic Claude API — Page content is forwarded to Anthropic's API to perform AI analysis. Anthropic processes this data pursuant to its own privacy policy, available at https://www.anthropic.com/privacy.

We do not sell, rent, trade, or otherwise transfer user data to any other third parties. We do not share data for advertising, analytics, or any purpose unrelated to delivering the extension's stated functionality.

4. Data Storage and Security

We do not store website content at rest. All data in transit between the Extension, our backend, and the Anthropic Claude API is protected using HTTPS/TLS encryption. Once the AI response has been delivered, the submitted page content is discarded and no copy is retained on our infrastructure.

Local extension preferences (such as display settings) are stored exclusively on your device using the browser's chrome.storage API and are never transmitted to our servers.

5. Data Retention

We retain no user data. Website content submitted for analysis is processed in real time and discarded immediately after the response is returned. We do not maintain logs, databases, or any persistent records of page content or analysis results.

6. Your Rights

Because we do not retain any user data, there is no stored personal information for us to retrieve, correct, or delete on your behalf. Nevertheless, you have the following rights:

• Access — You may request confirmation of whether we hold any data about you. Given our no-retention architecture, the answer will always be no.
• Deletion — You may request deletion of any data associated with you. No stored data exists to delete.
• Correction — You may request correction of inaccurate personal data. No personal data is held.
• Opt-out — You may stop using the Extension at any time by disabling or uninstalling it from Chrome. Doing so immediately halts all data transmission.

APIWhisperer is not directed at children under the age of 13, and we do not knowingly collect data from children. If you believe a child has provided us with personal information, please contact us and we will take prompt steps to address it.

9. Changes to This Policy

We may update this Privacy Policy from time to time. Any material changes will be reflected on this page with a revised "Last updated" date. We encourage you to review this policy periodically. Continued use of the Extension after changes are posted constitutes acceptance of the revised policy.
